The Trimbos Institute is a Dutch nonprofit organization that monitors and fights the use of illegal drugs in the Netherlands. They do this by, among other things, checking the content of drugs in users’ bodies. If a drug contains a high level of a certain substance, like alcohol, amphetamines, or opiates, then a Red Alert is started. The purpose of a Red Alert is to inform the public and prevent people from taking illegal drugs.
When a Red Alert is started, health authorities and the media are informed. This helps to spread the word and inform the public. As soon as a Red Alert is ended, it is ended. This helps to keep the number of incidents as small as possible.
